Rafael Alexis Quiles Hernández, known professionally as Álex Gárgolas, is a reggaetonproducer best known for the Gárgolas series which has been five albums so far.[1]
His installation of the series managed to debut at number on the Billboard , reaching number 6 on both the Latin Albums and Latin Rhythm Albums charts.
While his early music exemplified traditional fast-paced reggaeton, his newer compositions place more emphasis on sung vocals and romantic lyrics. Born in Boston, Massachusetts to a Dominican mother and a Puerto Rican father, his family moved to Puerto Rico when he was ten years old. He began recording music at age fourteen with his first EP The two formed the community Los Cangris, which was active from the late s toMusical career
In , using his savings of $, he produced music by a few fledgling artists, two who became the well-known, chart-topping reggaeton artists established as Wisin & Yandel.[2]
In , Gárgolas produced "Mi Llamada" (remix), a collaboration with emerging artists from Argentina and Puerto Rico.[3]
In , Gárgolas spearheaded the film of "Del Barrio a la Ciudad", a song that mixes traditional Mexican corridos with Farruko's urban sound.[4]
In , Gárgolas visited Chile claiming to want to produce a Chilean reggaeton album, but instead offended the urban musical artists of Chile, and left the country without producing any,[5] telling them to "stay in your country".[6]
