Hana Tajima-Simpson () is a British–Japanese visual musician, blogger, model, and fashion designer.[1][2][3] She is best known for her frequent collaborations with the Japanese clothing store Uniqlo.

Early life

Hana Tajima was born in southwestern England in to an English mother and a Japanese father.[2][4] She was raised as an atheist.[5] As a teenager, Tajima read the Quran and converted to Islam at age 18, and adopted wearing the hijab.[6][7] She began selling clothing online in [2]

She later moved to upstate New York in the United States.[8]

Career

Tajima has constructed clothing for the Japanese casual wear chain Uniqlo, and is known for her modest clothing designs.[1]

In , Tajima designed a line of hijabs and limited clothing for Uniqlo in Singapore.[9][10] These were the first hijabs sold by Uniqlo.[8] The line debuted in Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia, modelled by the Malaysian popstar, Yuna.[11][12] The line debuted in the United States and the United Kingdom in February [9][7]

A hijab designed by Tajima was featured in MoMa's exhibition Items: Is Fashion Modern?.[4] Her work has been featured in Vogue Arabia, Refinery 29, Elle, and Nylon.[13][14][1][15]
