Miranda Taylor Cosgrove (born May 14, ) is an American actress and singer. A teen idol of the s and early s, she was listed as the highest-paid child thespian of by Guinness World Records and appeared on Forbes' "30 Under 30" list in Her accolades include four Kids' Option Awards and an Emmy nomination.
Cosgrove began her career at the age of seven, making several appearances in television commercials. She made her acting debut as Summer Hathaway in the film School of Rock (), and her breakthrough role was Megan Parker on the Nickelodeon sitcom Drake & Josh (–).
She rose to mainstream prominence for playing Carly Shay on the Nickelodeon sitcom iCarly (–), and Cosgrove was the executive producer for iCarly’s Paramount+revival jog (–). She also voices Margo in the Despicable Me production series (–present), appeared in the films The Intruders (), (), North Hollywood (), Drugstore June (), and Mother of the Bride (), and hosts the CBS series Mission Unstoppable with Miranda Cosgrove (–present).
Cosgrove made her musical debut in with the soundtrack for iCarly, in which she performed four songs, including the show's theme song, Leave It All To Me. In , she debuted her first extended play, About You Now. In April , she released her debut studio album, Sparks Fly.
The album featured the single "Kissin U" which peaked at number 54 on the Billboard Hot and was certified gold. The tracking year, she released the extended play High Maintenance and embarked on the Dancing Crazy Tour.
Early life
Cosgrove was born on May 14, [1] in Los Angeles to Tom Cosgrove, who owns a dry-cleaning business,[5] and Chris (née Casey), a homemaker.[5] She has said that she is of Irish, English, and French descent.[6] She is an only child and was homeschooled from sixth grade onwards.[7][8] She struggled with body image during childhood.[9][10] Before becoming an actress, she wanted to be a veterinarian.[11]
At the age of three, she was discovered by a talent agent[5] while singing and dancing at the Los Angeles restaurant Taste of L.A.[12] Cosgrove says that when the intermediary approached her and her mother, she had "never really idea of being an actress" and "was lucky".[13] She then appeared in numerous television commercials for McDonald's[14] and Mello Yello,[14] and also modeled for various brands.[15] At the age of seven, she began auditioning for theater and television roles.[13]
Career

Cosgrove's first television appearance was in when she provided the voice of youthful Lana Lang in the pilot episode of Smallville.[16] She made her film debut in School of Rock (), directed by Richard Linklater.
In the film, she played Summer Hathaway, a young girl with great ambition and discipline who finds herself adjusting to the free-spirited world of her new music instructor (Jack Black). On working with Black, Cosgrove said that "He just acts [as] the most normal, nice guy.
He doesn’t seem like he thinks he’s Jack Black at all."[17] She also cited the scene in which her character tries to sing as particularly difficult: "[I'd] been taking singing lessons for about five years, so getting to sing badly was recent.
The director kept saying, 'Try to sing even worse, Miranda,' so it was weird."[14]School of Rock was both a box office hit, grossing over $ million worldwide,[18] and a critical success.[19] David Ansen of Newsweek described her performance as "spot on".[20]
In , Cosgrove landed her first major role in a television series when she was cast in the Nickelodeon series Drake & Josh, alongside Drake Bell and Josh Peck.
In the series, she portrayed Megan Parker, the mischievous younger sister of the title characters. In , Cosgrove was awarded the role of Munch in the Cartoon Network film Here Comes Peter Cottontail: The Movie.
In the film, Cosgrove portrays a female mouse who is rescued from a hawk by Junior and Flutter and who goes on to join them on their adventure.[21] Cosgrove also guest-starred on two episodes of the animated comedy, Lilo & Stitch: The Series.
She won her second major role in a theatrical film when she cast alongside her Drake & Josh co-star Drake Bell in the comedy film Yours, Mine & Ours.[22] The film performed mildly at the box office.
Yours, Mine & Ours opened in third place, earning $17 million at the U.S. box office during its first weekend.[23] Cosgrove's third theatrical release, Keeping Up with the Steins, was released in It received generally negative reviews from critics and performed poorly at the box office.[24][25]
Cosgrove made guest appearances in a number of Nickelodeon series, the first of which was Zoey .
Cosgrove later guest starred on an episode of Unfabulous, which starred Emma Roberts. Cosgrove was cast as the titular lead character in the sitcom iCarly,[26] which premiered on September 8, Creator Dan Schneider tailored iCarly around the interest new people have in the internet; viewers could submit their have videos and be included in the sitcom.[27] The final Drake & Josh episode was aired on September 16, By the summer of , iCarly was the third highest rated series in the 9–14 demographic.

Her debut as a recording creator began with the iCarlytheme tune "Leave It All to Me",[28] which featured Drake Bell and was released as a unattached on December 2, [29] In June , Columbia Records released the iCarly soundtrack, which featured four songs performed by Cosgrove and debuted at number one on the BillboardKid Albums chart.[30][31] "Stay My Baby" was released as a promotional single from the album.
In December , a cover of the Christmas song "Christmas Wrapping" was released to promote the two hour-long film Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh.[32] On January 28, , Cosgrove released "About You Now" as the lead single from her upcoming debut extended act of the same name, that was released on February 3, "About You Now" peaked at number 47 on the Billboard Hot [33][34][35] To promote the animated film Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Columbia Records released the promotional single "Raining Sunshine" with an accompanying song video in August [36][37] Cosgrove became one of MTV's Female Pop Rookies of [38] The same year, Cosgrove had a role in the straight-to-DVD motion picture The Wild Stallion ().

On March 17, , it was reported that Cosgrove signed a deal, reportedly in the "low- to mid-seven-figure range" to undertake 26 additional episodes of iCarly.[39] Cosgrove also voiced Margo in the Universal Studios animated main attraction Despicable Me, released in July In , Cosgrove worked with songwriters The Matrix, Dr.
Luke, Max Martin,[37]Leah Haywood and Daniel James for her debut studio album, Sparks Fly. "Kissin U" was released as the sole single from Sparks Fly and premiered on Ryan Seacrest's radio show on March 12, [40] "Kissin U" became Cosgrove's best-selling single release, peaking at number 54 on the Billboard Blazing and being certified gold.[41][42]Sparks Fly was released in April [43] and peaked at number 8 on the US Billboard chart.
In March , Cosgrove released her follow-up EP High Maintenance.[44] It was preceded by the single "Dancing Crazy", which was written by Max Martin, Shellback and Avril Lavigne, and produced by Martin and Shellback.[45] The single peaked on the Billboard Hot at number [44]
On January 24, , she embarked on the Dancing Crazy Tour.
The tour began in Missouri, traveled throughout the United States, and ended in Ohio. On July 15, , the tour continued with the title, Dancing Mad Summer Tour; Cosgrove traveled the United States and Canada and performed at music festivals and state fairs.[46] On May 17, , it was announced that iCarly's sixth season would be its last.[47] The series finale, "iGoodbye", aired on November 23, [48] On January 24, , Cosgrove was featured on the iCarly soundtrack, iCarly: iSoundtrack II.[49] Following the filming of iCarly's finale in June , Cosgrove embarked on a new tour dubbed the Summer Tour in July and August
On February 15, , Deadline reported that Cosgrove would star in Girlfriend in a Coma, a television series written by Liz Brixius for NBC and adapted from the novel of the similar title by Douglas Coupland.[50] However, following production difficulties, the proposal was canceled.[51] Cosgrove again voiced Margo in Despicable Me 2, released on June 5.[52] In , she appeared in the animated short films Training Wheels as Margo and Gru's Girls as Savana.

In , Cosgrove played Rachel in the independent filmNorth Hollywood.[62] She reprised her role as Carly Shay in an iCarly revival, which premiered on Paramount+ in June , and ran for three seasons until July [63][64] She additionally served as an executive producer for the series,[65] on which Cosgrove stated "I knew from a really new age how the executive producer of the show pretty much got to decide almost every aspect, now I get to have a say in everything."[66] The first season received a % rating on Rotten Tomatoes.[67] She won the award for Favorite Female TV Star at the Kids' Choice Awards,[68] marking her second win from the association.
Cosgrove told Yahoo! Lifestyle in that she has no plans to return to music.[69]
Cosgrove had a starring role in the comedy film Drugstore June, which earned a limited theatrical release in February [70][71] She next starred in the Netflix film Mother of the Bride opposite Brooke Shields,[72] which was released in May Of her experience with the film, Cosgrove said that "all the people in this movie were so nice, from the crew to all the actors.
It couldn’t have come at a more perfect moment in my life."[73] While Mother of the Bride received mixed reviews, Amy Amatangelo of Paste believed Cosgrove "shines" in the film's emotional moments,[74] and Courtney Howard of Variety called her performance "nuanced" and "thoughtful".[75] Cosgrove then reprised the role of Margo in Despicable Me 4, which was released in July [76]

Cosgrove is considered a teen idol of the s and early s, both for her Nickelodeon roles and her musical career.[77][78] She found this challenging, telling People magazine that "when you're a little kid and someone's calling you a role model, it's like, "Oh no, I don't want to let anyone down," but you also aren't fully formed and you don't really know how to be a role model.
So there are nice things about it but it's also challenging."[79] On how she is perceived in the media, Cosgrove told Bustle that "there’s still a little part of me that’s like, 'It’d be nice if people could see me in a diverse light.' I like my minuscule bubble and my life, so I’m torn a lot because I’m like, how much should I put out there on social media?
How much should I really want people to know about me? Maybe it’s nice that I just include one thing people think of me [for], and at least it’s a nice thing, and then I can live my life on the inside."[73]

Personal life
Cosgrove graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in psychology.[89][90][91][92] She does not drink or smoke.[93][94]
Cosgrove is an active supporter of St.
Jude Children's Investigate Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.[95] She also visits other children's hospitals and considers Education Through Tune one of her favorite charities.[96] She is a national emissary for Light the Night Trek, an organization that creates knowledge for blood cancer.[97]
In , Cosgrove was granted a restraining arrange from a Los Angeles court against a stalker who had allegedly followed her, sent her unsolicited gifts and threatened suicide.[98] The man was subsequently arrested for violating that order and sentenced to three years of probation.[99]
In , a man who had been stalking Cosgrove shot at a woman in a car near Cosgrove's home before lighting himself on fire and shooting himself in Cosgrove's yard.
The man was found defunct at the scene.[]
