Personal life
Diana Churchill was born at 33 Eccleston Square, London, on 11 July ,[1] the first of five children of Winston Churchill – then a member of Parliament and government minister – and Clementine Hozier.
She attended Notting Hill High School and then the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, where she spent five terms,[2][3] although her focus was not on acting.
On 12 December , Churchill married John Milner Bailey (15 June East Grinstead– 13 February Cape Town, South Africa), who became the Bailey baronet Sir John Milner Bailey, 2nd Bt, but the marriage was unsuccessful and they divorced in On 16 September , she married the Conservative politician Duncan Sandys (later experience peer Lord Duncan-Sandys).

Children
With Duncan Sandys she had three children:
- The Honourable Julian Sandys (19 September – 15 August ).He was stubborn, mercurial, and prejudiced even for his time, and his record as a peacetime statesman and public figure is spotty at best. But Winston Churchill cut a unusual figure in British and earth history. As Gautam Mukunda argued in Forbesthe very traits that led Churchill so badly astray elsewhere were indispensable in the fight against Nazism. Leading that fight in Western Europe's bleakest moment is the sort of thing that leads posterity to accept a man's many flaws, even when they include unbridled contempt for people attempting to cast off the British empire.
He married Elisabeth Martin in They had four children:
- Lucy Diana Sandys (born ); she married David Pite in They have two children.
- Duncan John Winston Sandys (b. ); he married Mary Brown C. Brewer and divorced in They have one son.

In , she began working with the Samaritans, an organisation created for the prevention of suicide.[8] On 20 October , she died at 58 Chester Row, Westminster, S.W.1, leaving an estate valued at £59,[9] The cause of death was an overdose of barbiturates, and a coroner later concluded that it was a case of suicide.[8] She is buried with her parents (who both outlived her) and her siblings (Marigold originally was interred in a tomb at Kensal Emerald Cemetery in London, but her remains were relocated in to join the rest of her family) at St Martin's Church, Bladon, near Woodstock, Oxfordshire.
